United Way of Greater Los Angeles

CREATING L.A.’S FUTURE. TOGETHER.

We can accomplish more together than alone. That’s why for 100 years, generations have trusted United Way of Greater Los Angeles to help navigate natural disasters, economic hardships, housing stability, and so much more. We’re a guide neighbors turn to for giving-and receiving-help.

Our Work

Our work is centered on people struggling to find support in the short term and prosperity in the long term, so that each person is able to feel a deep sense of belonging in their community of choice, with the resources to live, work, and thrive together.

We’ve helped power some of the most impactful and innovative policy initiatives, coalitions, and programs in L.A.’s history. From creating pathways out of poverty and homelessness to leading the movement for education equity for all LAUSD students—our work is focused on the people who are most in need of support. We’re turning your contributions into support for people in crisis and creating shared prosperity in communities across Greater Los Angeles.

Our approach meets the needs for today and creates a better tomorrow through two key strategies:

Supporting People in Crisis

We support people where they are. Whether they need a safe place to sleep or help paying their bills – we are there.

  • Rental assistance to 500+ families

  • Utilities assistance to 16,000+ families

  • Learning and technology support to 1,000+ students

Building Shared Prosperity

We tackle pervasive disparities in housing, education, and community wealth, so everyone can own a share of L.A.’s future.

  • Our Affordable Housing Initiative is financing 580+ units for housing insecure neighbors in communities from Chinatown to Boyle Heights to Wilmington to South LA.

  • The Women’s Investment Network is helping 200 Black and Latina women receive financial coaching, build personal wealth, and increase investment in their communities.

  • The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program ensures low-income families maximize returns, claiming $4.2 million in federal returns for 1,520 households this year alone.

Make a gift

The numbers are staggering. Nearly 70,000 people are experiencing homelessness in L.A. County, 1.5 million neighbors are living in poverty, and 850,000 students don’t have access to basic academic resources.

United Way is committed to changing that – but we need your help to do it.
