UNCF - United Negro College Fund - is the nation’s largest and most effective minority education organization. UNCF serves students, communities and the nation by helping students from low-income families go to and through college. UNCF provides support to students at approximately 900 colleges across the country - including almost all public and private historically black colleges and universities - and other schools including Harvard, Princeton and MIT.

On the most basic level, all UNCF scholarship programs help students from low-income families. Many programs, like the UNCF/Merck Science Initiative, include internship and target specific academic and career opportunities. UNCF’s Campaign for Emergency Student Aid provides “just in time” aid that helps thousands of recession impacted students graduate on time.

At a time when a college degree is what a high school diploma was to previous generations-the minimum entry-level requirement for almost every well-paying career-UNCF plays a critical role in enabling students to attend college and get the education they need and that the nation needs them to have.

Our Students Today: a significant number of our students come from low- to moderate-income families, and 94 percent qualify for financial aid. About 60% of these students are the first in their families to attend college, and 62% have annual family incomes of less than $30,000.

Our Scholarship Programs: UNCF awards more than 10,000 scholarships through more than 400 scholarship, internship, fellowship and institutional grants that provides millions of dollars each year to support students at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. UNCF member colleges and universities admit students without reference to race or ethnicity.
